Postpartum pathway

Your return to movement after birth

Coming back to exercise after having a baby doesn't have to be guesswork. This is a look at how a typical, uncomplicated journey can unfold with us - from your first assessment to a final review - so you know what to expect before you start.

Every body and birth is different. Think of this as a map, not a timetable: your physiotherapist sets the pace and the plan with you.

  • 1 Assessment to set your baseline
  • 10 Weekly strength or reformer sessions
  • 1 Review to see how far you've come

The journey, step by step

Three phases, at your pace

  1. Week 1 · Where you start

    A postpartum physiotherapy assessment

We begin with a one-to-one assessment to understand your birth, your recovery so far, and your goals - whether that's lifting your baby without pain, running again, or simply feeling steady in your body. It gives us the baseline we build everything else on.

Your assessment is with one of our women's health physiotherapists:

  2. The main block · Building strength

A weekly rhythm of strength & reformer Pilates

From there, we move into a steady weekly rhythm of Strength & Conditioning and/or Reformer Pilates - guided, progressive, and shaped around how you're feeling and what you're working towards. Most journeys are built around ten sessions; how quickly you get through them is up to you and your goals.

    Once a week

    ≈ 10 weeks

A gentle, sustainable cadence that fits around life with a newborn.

    Twice a week

    ≈ 5 weeks

A quicker pace when you have the time and capacity to progress sooner.

Same ten sessions either way - the mix of strength and reformer, and the pace, is decided with your physiotherapist.

  3. Wrapping up · Seeing your progress

    A final review physiotherapy session

After your ten sessions, we come back together for a review physiotherapy session. We revisit the baseline from day one, look at how far you've come, and map out what's next - whether that's continuing independently, progressing your training, or focusing on a specific goal.
